Hello, and welcome to my world! My name is Marleen, and I live in the Netherlands. From a young age I have always loved creating and immersing myself in fantasy. After finishing school I left creativity aside for a long while, until one day inspiration returned in an unexpected way. I had a dream about making miniature fantasy landscapes and figurines inside large glass globes—and I woke up knowing: Yes, that is what I want to do!

I bought my first supplies and began sculpting small figures from clay. Some were decent, many make me laugh now when I look back, but they were the start of my journey. Over the years my skills have grown enormously, my materials have improved, and I continue to learn every day by simply creating.

This website had been in my thoughts for a long time. When I first began my art, I started building the world of Vhalandar—a place where every creature I made could find a home, and where the lore could slowly expand. At the time my sales were few and my social media reach was small, so interest in the lore seemed limited, and I lost some motivation to keep it up. Yet the stories never really left me. Recently I picked them up again, and this site is the result of many hours of thought and writing. I am proud of how Vhalandar has taken shape, and I hope you, as a reader, can also lose yourself for a moment in these tales and descriptions.

The site is filled with lore, and I will continue expanding it with every new creature and character. Not all regions of the world are fully discovered yet! In the future I may also write the adventures of certain beings, because there are many stories waiting to be told.

In the Creatures Gallery you will find photographs of the original sculptures that inspired the illustrations across the site. Not everything is still available on Etsy, but I have linked to the pieces that are. You will also find my handmade miniatures—fairy furniture, booknooks, shadowboxes, and fairy lanterns—in a separate section, all of which are listed on Etsy as well.
